Hair Removal
How Does It Work?
Laser hair removal is also called selective photothermolysis. The treatment uses a specific wavelength of light to target the melanin in the hair. This causes a change in the hair follicle that prevents hair from growing. Success is based on a combination of wavelength, duration and energy. The technician needs to analyze the patient's skin type to ensure the correct settings are used to achieve successful treatment without injury.
Laser energy is attracted to the color of the hair. Energy travels down the length of the hair to the follicle. The energy damages the follicle resulting in the release of the hair shaft and the inability to effectively produce more hair.
Since the laser can treat a larger area than other permanent hair removal treatments, the procedure is quicker, more painless and easier than other hair removal systems. Laser hair treatment is safe for most skin types. If you have any questions, click here to send us an email or give us a call at (914) 468-8100.
After just one treatment, hair will grow back thinner and finer. Since hair grows in cycles, a series of six treatments is usually recommended to ensure that all follicles are treated during their growth cycles.
The benefits of the performance of the procedures offered by the Medical Center for Laser Aesthetics are based on Luminis Aesthetic IPL research, as well as the training and professional experience of the medical director and medical practitioners.
